ARTSevilla is already here!

In its third edition, ARTSevilla – International Meeting of Contemporary Art is still opting for the coexistence, the integration and the dialogue. The event seeks to create a connexion between current art, the society around it and the place where it is developed.

Seville becomes a neutral place where its different agents have a pretext to interact: the art. The involvement of the different art and cultural centres in the event turn out to be essential in this regard. Exhibition spaces as Santa Inés, Atín Aya and Espacio Laraña, as well as La Casa de la Memoria, the Antiquarium, the Documentation Centre of Performing Arts (CDAEA) and Caótica library will receive the different initiatives registered in this edition.

The exhibition activity will be developed throughout October. The first exhibition, “De izquierda a derecha y de abajo hacia arriba”, curated by Tomás Cordero, will be opened the 3rd of October at 12:00pm in the Chamber of Commerce.

The section ARTSevilla OFF will be opened the 11th October at 8:00pm in the Atín Aya’s Room. It covers the proposals “Creo que a Joseph Beuys no lo tengo en Facebook”, curated by Patricia Bueno del Río, “La noche española” by Paco Pérez Valencia, “El rey de las serpientes” by Rafael López Bosch and “Pieza 007” by Mara León, who has contributed with the more visible look of this edition.

The four most important days start the 26th October at 10:30am in CaixaForum Sevilla with the presentation of ARTSevilla 17 and the magazine ARTS III. The official opening will take place in the exhibition room of Saint Inés the same day at 1:30pm. And the Cultural Days will open at 3:00pm in the Antiquarium, with talks about cultural affairs, exhibition curatorship, museography, education, research, artistic creation and undertaking, among other aspects.

Santa Inés’ Exhibition space will receive the different participating universities and schools of artistic education: Camberwell College of Arts of London, Complutense University of Madrid, Avanced School of Art of Oporto, Loyola University of Andalusia and the University of Seville. In turn, the collective of graphic design and creativity “Macho Dominante” introduces a selection of limit edition’s illustrations, in the context of the Andalucian Meeting of Designers organized by LAB (school for designers in Seville).

We will count also on the involvement of the provincial government of Huelva, which includes a participatory project dedicated to the 525th anniversary of the meeting between two worlds: Huelva – America. For its part, the city council of Algeciras gives benefits to women’s visibility in the field of the plastic arts.

On the other hand, a total of fifteen spaces will take part in the cultural itinerary The Guest. The artists invited for the occasion encourage us to go across the different spaces and to know their own programming with their work.

As every year, the sections of Instalation, Performance, Videocreation and Solo Projects are placed among the named exhibitions. This last one, which we can visit since October the 23rd, has been reserved to independent artists who have worked on the subject “Laberintos del S.XXI” with the idea of giving visibility to the after-effects which continue to mark our times in an incomprehensible way. For its part, the Videocreation’s section will count on different sessions of projection since 16 October.

The set of posters stands out in this edition. City, society and art, are the essential elements which Alejandro Rojas (illustrator and graphic designer of Seville) has given shape and meaning to. They are the semantic of a language which is the example of the interaction between the different participating agents. To give visibility to an event where the interaction is a key action, we have introduced signs towards Damien Hirst or Jeff Koons, in an important and international area, and also towards Andalucian artists as Manuel Barbadillo, Ana Barriga and Mara León.

During the last edition, ARTSevilla stood up by the definition of an open, close and multifaceted model, able to face countless difficulties. Thanks to the support of the different participating entities, we will achieve, once again, being visible and accessible for the citizens who find barriers in contemporary art beforehand.
